It is with the greatest regret that Thorne Rural Lions have had to make the decision to cancel our Sleigh activities for 2020.
Our Lion members have spent much of 2020 working on the sleigh ready for this year, our plans and the work begin early in the year. An whilst we have explored every possibility to take the sleigh out this year it has been decided that it would not be safe for the public or our volunteers. One idea was to go out with a minimum team with Santa, a driver 4 others with no collections and ask the public to wave from their doorstep or window. Most would, some wouldn’t. We cover such a large area and we could not risk spreading the disease from one area to another.
It’s just one year, they’ll be many more. Hugely disappointing, not just for you but for us too. If people were to gather, we could be accused of encouraging it, which would be against Covid Law. The journey around the district could be regarded as an ‘unnecessary journey’ and would be against Covid Law. We could not risk a heavy fine. Then yesterday we were told that we wouldn’t get insurance.
As Lions we are devastated about cancelling the Sleigh activities, we hope you understand. We are still continuing our good work where we can and continue with the 2020 Toy Appeal
Please note we are aware of other Lions Clubs receiving abuse due to the cancellations and we will not respond to any negative comments.
Thorne Rural Lions wish you all the best for Christmas and look forward to seeing you in 2021
